Why track beehives (and their queens)?

SmartFarmData has a solution for the electronic identification (EID) of honey boxes. The specific solution depends on the beekeeper's objectives and requirements together with the benefits and the costs.

Below are two options for consideration. Other solutions will be developed for your individual needs.

Solution one - Hive up close:

Hive box identification - Each electronic tag has an embedded unique ID plus room for other data. The purpose is to record individual box activities, for example:

Date at a location

Harvest date

Warm room in date

Floral type

AFB present

Excluders in

Sugar supplement

This data is trasmitted to the office for management purposes.

Components required:

Electronic tag

Mobile phone or phone enabled tablet: the phone is the reader, data entry device and the transmitter of the data to the office.

Mobile app ( one per team leader and /or truck, special requirements would need to be quoted), office data management software.

Solution Two - Hive from a distance:

The electronic tags have an embedded unique ID. In the field, high power readers can read the IDs on all boxes within a distance of 3-5m, it is ideal for any inventory count/stocktake at yards
