SMART MONITORING AND FEEDBACK IN REAL TIME.

The smaXtec system is a tool that enhances the farmer's ability to keep an eye the health of their herd. It provides key information that is crucial to help drive efficiency and profitability of our modern day farming operations.

Some of the key features of the system are,

  • It provides you with key physiological data from your cows in near real-time

  • The data is provided in an easy-to-use format

  • Data anywhere, anytime of the day.

  • The physiological data indicates if there is a problem so you can take quick corrective action to avoid negative impacts, for example, with SARA, (reduced milk and un-wellness within the herd.)

The main key components that make up the smaXtec system are:

  1. The smaXtec pH & Temp Sensor - designed to provide continuous mesurement of pH level and temperature in the rumen.

  2. The smaXtec sensor - designed to provide continuous mesurement of motion activity and core temperature of cows.

  3. The smaXtec Climate Sensor - Desgined to provide continuous measurement of environmental factors such as outside temperature and humidity levels.

  4. The smaXtec Base Station - designed to receive data from the system's sensors in real-time. The data is sent to the server and saved in the online database.

  5. The smaXtec Repeater - designed to extend the range of the smaXtec Base Station in certain configurations.

  6. The smaXtec Messenger - designed as an automatic messaging tool to keep you informed of any changes in a cow's state of health.

Benefits of pH Measurement:

  • Monitoring and maintenance of rumen  health

      Early detection of fermentation disorders

  • Feed Management

Increase feed efficiency (IOFC = Income over Feed            Costs) through improved feed conversion

Mobilizing unused performance potential with a                  higher energy ration without impacting animal                      health Increased feed intake =(increased milk yield)

Needs-oriented ration (monitoring of ration changes,          feed selection

Benefits of activity level measurement:

  • Early, automatic oestrus detection (Reduction in days open, increased milk yield due to shorter lapes times between calves, improved insemination index)

  • Indication of a drop in activity levels caused by onset illness

Benefits of temperature measurement:

  • Early detection of onset of diseases

(Feverish disorders, metabolic disorders, post-                    calving disorders)

  • Early detection of start of calving (Reduction in number of still births, optimization of calving management)

smaXtec pH & Temp Sensor:

The smaXtec Sensor pH is designed to provide continous measurement of temperature activity and rumen pH levels. The recorded data is transmitted wirelessly to the smaXtec Base Station in real-time. The smaXtec Sensor provides continous measurement of the cows activity levels and rumen temperature.

The smaXtex sensor:

The smaXtec Sensor provides continuous measurement of the cow’s activity levels and rumen temperature. Measurements are taken automatically every 10 minutes (24/7); recorded data is wirelessly transmitted in real-time via the smaXtec read-out devices and then sent to the server. Our optimized alert system enables early detection of fl uctuations and changes in the various parameters so that corrective action can be taken quickly. The smaXtec Sensor provides support in herd reproduction and health management as well as providing valuable information about your cows’ water uptake behaviour. All of this data is integrated in smaXtec Messenger, which features many different practical user options such as, for example, the creation and administration of groups. Automatic alert messages are sent by email or APP (Android, iOS) if there are any abnormal changes. Representative cows can also be fi tted with pH sensors. Rumen pH levels are of key importance in feed management and can be used to optimize feed effi ciency.

Benefits of activity level and temperature measurement:

REPRODUCTION:

• Early, automatic estrus detection (a cow‘s activity levels    are 2-4 times higher in estrus): – Reduction in days open – Increased milk yields due to shorter lapse times between calves – Improved insemination index

• Early detection of start of calving: – Reduction in number of still births – Optimization of calving management

HEALTH:

• Early detection of onset of diseases: – Feverish disorders – Metabolic disorders (ketosis, milk fever) – Post-calving disorders (e.g. mastitis, metritis)

• Heat stress: – Starts to occurs at ambient temperatures of around 25°C / 77° F – Increased stress for the cows – Signifi cant drop in feed uptake – Reduced milk yield – Reduced reproduction

• Water uptake: – Monitoring of water management (clean and properly functioning drinking troughs): milk is about 87% water – suffi cient water uptake is essential for good milk yield – Detection of a change in water uptake behaviour: water uptake correlates closely with feed uptake

BENEFITS OF CLIMATE SENSOR IN THE COW SHED:

The real benefits of the Climate Sensor within your cowshed are to help with,

• THI (Temperature Humidity Index) – heat stress risk

• Cow shed temperature and humidity level

TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THE CLIMATE SENSOR:

• Dimensions: 120 x 90 x 50 mm (L x B x H)

• Dustproof and waterproof plastic casing (IP 66)

• Internal antenna

• Interne Li-Ion battery • Measurement interval: 10 min

• Measurement range (relative humidity): 0 - 100% RH

• Measurement range (temperature): -40 - +80°C/-40 - +176°F

• Measurement accuracy (temperature; 5 – 60°C/41 – 140°F): ± 0.3 °C/± 0.54°F • Measurement accuracy (relative humidity; 20 – 80% RH): ± 2% RH

• Battery life: up to 5 years

CLIMATE SENSOR:

The smaXtec Climate Sensor is designed to provide continuous measurement of environmental factors such as outside temperature and humidity levels. This data is also transmitted wirelessly to the smaXtec Base Station or smaXtec Repeater. The number of smaXtec Climate Sensors required is dependent on the size of the cow shed.

The smaXtec Base Station:

The smaXtec Base Station automatically receives data from the system’s sensors within the animals rumen in realtime. The data is transmitted to the server and stored in the online database.

The Repeater can be used to extend the network range.

TECHNICAL DETAILS OF smaXtec BASE STATION:

• Dimensions: 200 x 110 x 60 mm (L x B x H)

• Dustproof and waterproof (IP65) with smaXtec Ethernet cable connected or with included rubber seal

• Antenna for communication with smaXtec Sensors (max. distance 5-10 m/16-32 ft)

• Antenna for communication with smaXtec Repeater (max. distance between read-out stations 100 m/328 ft)

• Device available with GSM/without GSM • Ethernet socket: for internet connection

• Supplied mains adapter: 100-240V, 2A

• Easy to mount on a wall or wooden post etc.

smaXtec Repeater:

The Reapter can extend the range of the network and it is sometimes advisable to use a smaXtec Repeater (to cover various areas of the cow shed). It provides an easy-to-use and cost-efficient extension of the smaXtec wireless network and communication with the smaXtec Sensors within the animal rumen.

SMAXTEC MESSENGER

Processing of the data in real-time means you are kept in-formed at all times about the current state of the health of your animals.

The smaXtec Messenger sends you immediate alerts if there are significant changes in pH rumen pH, temperature or activity levels. The suggested actions enable you to respond quickly and efficiently – for example by adjusting feed quantities or contacting your consultant or veterinarian.
